Saturday afternoon thoughts of springs’ imminent and pending return

Ahhhhh ….. The winter months drag on and it seems as though we haven’t seen quite enough snow ,  not  that I am missing it too much …. but now when I am ready for daffodils and pussy willow the temps plummet back down into the low teens  .    We heat our home with wood .    A choice many of you probably would not consider ,   but we have for 21 winters now and it works for us.   It works well until March comes along and I can no longer stand  the feeling of my arms and shoulders as I can’t quite do my hair with any sense of ease and sleeping with out the assistance of naproxen is almost impossible.    The wood supply dwindles to thick branches and the most gargantuan logs known to man .   ( those are opposites if you aren’t familiar)

No I am not complaining   I think the term is whining…. Why am I going on about firewood ,  the lack there of and the lack of snow ?   Because  I have not been able to sled ride down the front hill at least once at home and wedding season 2017 kicked off TODAY !    Yay wedding season ….. this week on March 14, I will celebrate my 3rd anniversary of a flower shop owner .   Woot Woot …

2014, thirty five weddings

2015 , 63  Events     (entails any planned project with a total balance of 500.00 or more not including funerals )

2016 ,  74 Events.

I promise that with all that I am and all that I have I will never,  no never tackle  any schedule like 2016 again in my career.   Unless  I have another full time designer working circles around me .That schedule was plain crazy ,   afraid to say no to any one I worked like a nut .  I enjoy working like a nut don’t get me wrong ,   but I would like to enjoy life if only a little whilst working like that .

2017 Is filling up nicely, like I mentioned above today we had a nice wedding  ,   congratulations to McKenzie and Wil .  Your wedding in dark burgundy and grey was so beautiful .   Your bouquets were “drippy beautiful”  One of my brides from ’14 coined that term and it has worked well for me now these years.    Our warmest congratulations to our Brides and Grooms ,  Past Present and Future!    Thank you so  very much for trusting The Willows  with one of the most special days of your life !  I love making each wedding unique and individual and yet suiting every couples’ style .    As I look at images of my work ,  I would say that my goals are accomplished and work is different than the week before.

So spring will be springing soon once this freezing spell moves on ,   the Pussy Willows are willowing and the sun is shining ,  even if through the icicles on the gutter.

A friend shared this legend with me this morning and I just must share it again as it is worthy of repeating ….

Pussy Willows

According to an old Polish Legend,

a mother cat was crying at the bank of  the river

in which her kittens were drowning.

The willows at the river’s edge longed to help her ,

so they swept their long graceful branches into the waters

to rescue the tiny kittens who had fallen into the river

while chasing butterflies.

The kittens gripped on tightly to their branches

and were safely brought to shore .

Each springtime since,

goes the legend,

the willow branches sprout

out tiny fur-like buds at their tips

where the tiny kittens once clung.
